Canada offers several routes for temporary and permanent immigration to the country. Key permanent residency programs for investors leading to citizenship are the followings:
Express Entry Pool – Federal Program
Potential candidates for permanent residence who qualify under one of the economic programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and Canadian Experience Class (each program has its own eligibility criteria) are required to complete an online Express Entry profile. The profile remains active for one year. Applicants who qualify are entered into a pool of candidates await selection to apply for permanent residence. All candidates in the pool are ranked against one another based on their points. Those with the highest points are issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.
Provincial Nominee Programs
Provincial and territorial governments choose immigrants according to the economic needs of the province or territory. Each province and territory: establishes its own standards and processes by which it chooses its nominees; and tries to nominate those candidates who would be most likely to settle effectively into the economic and social life of the region. An Applicant must meet minimum requirements of Federal programs.
Quebec Investor Program
Under the Canada-Quebec Accord, the province of Quebec operates its own immigrant Investor and Entrepreneur program, and Quebec-selected investors or entrepreneurs are subject to Québec’s own conditions rather than federal conditions. Currently the program for investors is re-drafted from the Federal government and it is expected that the minimum investment of CDN $800,000 will most probably increase.
Quebec Investor Program
All entrepreneurs in the Québec program must intend to live in Québec and must be selected by Québec. Entrepreneurs in the Québec program must have a net worth of CDN $300,000.
